Bundibugyo Ebola Pseudovirus
Bundibugyo ebolavirus (BDBV) is a rare species of Ebola virus first identified during an outbreak in Uganda’s Bundibugyo District in 2007. Unlike the more common Zaire ebolavirus, Bundibugyo virus has been responsible for only a few documented outbreaks, including a significant epidemic in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in 2012. Despite its rarity, the virus can cause severe Ebola virus disease with high mortality rates.
Today, Bundibugyo ebolavirus is once again drawing global attention as it drives a major outbreak affecting the DRC and neighboring Uganda, highlighting the ongoing need for effective surveillance, diagnostics, and countermeasure development.
