Why SARS-CoV-2 Pseudovirus?

SARS-CoV-2 pseudotyped viral particles offer a powerful, biosafe alternative to live virus for use in neutralization and infectivity assays. Designed to mimic the native structure of SARS-CoV-2, including variant-specific Spike proteins, these non-replicating viral particles are safe to handle in BSL-2 laboratories.

Unlike live viruses, pseudotyped particles deliver consistent antigenic profiles, removing the risk of genetic drift and ensuring experimental reliability. Each particle is engineered to carry a built-in reporter gene, such as luciferase or GFP, allowing for rapid, quantifiable results using standard fluorescence or luminescence-based detection systems.

By eliminating the need for live virus culture, extensive biosafety training, and complex QC procedures, this ready-to-use tool streamlines workflows, reduces turnaround time, and accelerates SARS-CoV-2 research and therapeutic development.

Pseudoviruses for neutralizing antibody (NAbs) detection assays for vaccine development

Applications

Pseudoviruses offer a safe, adaptable platform for influenza research and the advancement of therapeutic strategies. Influenza pseudoviruses serve a wide range of purposes in R&D, including:

Neutralizing Antibody Screening

Vaccine and Antiviral Drug Development

Antiviral Resistance Studies

Fundamental Research on Viral Entry

Long-Term Immunity Across Subpopulations

Pseudovirus neutralization assay

Publications using SARS-CoV-2 pseudoviruses

The pseudovirus neutralization assay, which does not involve infectious viruses and can be performed without a biosafety level 3 laboratory, offers a safe and rapid method for screening neutralizing monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) and antiviral agents targeting the Spike protein of the SARS-CoV-2. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the pseudoviruses assay became one of the methods of reference to accelerate the development of vaccines and anti-viral drugs against SARS-CoV-2.
